Does Higgsfield have an API? Yes — and an MCP. Here is what each one bills
Higgsfield gives you two ways to generate outside its website: a pay-per-generation API for code, and an MCP server that AI agents like Claude connect to with your account. They do not bill the same thing, they do not offer the same models, and neither one gives you a screen to run two hundred jobs. This page sorts out which is which, then shows how Onyx.AI runs both in batch — your key, your account, no code, nothing added to the price.
Higgsfield API, MCP and website: what each one bills
| Website | API | MCP | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where | higgsfield.ai | open.higgsfield.ai | mcp.higgsfield.ai |
| Billed on | Your plan's credits | A separate API balance, per generation | Your plan's credits |
| You need | An account | An API key (key ID + secret) | An active paid plan, no key |
| Unlimited | Yes, on the plans that include it | No | Not outside time-limited trial offers |
| Made for | One generation at a time, by hand | Your own code or a tool built on it | Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other agents |
Based on Higgsfield's own API page and help center, October 2026. Prices and offers change: check them there before you commit.
The short version: the API is for paying per generation without a subscription; the MCP is for spending the credits of a plan you already pay for, from an agent. Unlimited stays a website feature.
Higgsfield API pricing, in plain words
The API is pay as you go. Each model has its own price per generation, listed in Higgsfield's catalog, volume discounts apply automatically, and your personal and team workspaces share one balance with optional auto top-up. It is not your subscription: a Higgsfield plan does not fill your API balance, and the API balance does not show up as plan credits.
Which one is cheaper depends on how you work. A steady daily volume of the models your plan covers usually favors the plan. Irregular batches, or models you only need now and then, usually favor paying per generation. The honest answer is to run the same twenty jobs both ways and look at what left your account.
How to connect Higgsfield to Claude
Claude talks to Higgsfield through the MCP. Higgsfield's own steps:
- Open Claude's settings. On claude.ai or in Claude Desktop, go to Settings, then Connectors, and click Add custom connector.
- Add the server. Name it Higgsfield and enter
https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp. - Sign in. Click Connect, sign in to Higgsfield and authorize. The connector then shows in your active list.
Two things to know before you ask Claude for a batch. Every generation through a connected agent deducts credits, whatever your plan, and Higgsfield sets no hard credit cap on the connector — a limit you write in the conversation is only an instruction. And Claude works one conversation at a time: fine for a few pictures, slow and hard to follow for two hundred clips with the same settings.
Onyx.AI connects to that same MCP, with the same Higgsfield sign-in, but puts a queue behind it instead of a chat.
Your Higgsfield API key: where to get it, and how it is used here
Create a key at open.higgsfield.ai: you get a key ID and a secret. On Onyx.AI, paste them once in Settings, API keys, as id:secret. Higgsfield is asked to accept the key before it is saved.
Higgsfield does not allow its API to be called from a browser, so the calls go through the Onyx.AI server with your key. The key is stored on the server, readable by the app only, never written to the logs and never sent back to the page — you only ever see its last four characters. Remove it in one click and it is deleted.
Each key starts with 20 jobs running at once on Higgsfield's side. Launches here are paced to stay inside that, so a big batch waits for a free slot instead of failing.
What runs on each one
With your API key
- Kling 3.0 and 2.6, Motion Control included
- Wan 3.0, Seedance 2.0 and 2.5, Grok Video, HappyHorse
- GPT Image 2.0 and 2.5, Grok Image 2.0
- Billed by Higgsfield to your API balance
With your Higgsfield account (MCP)
- The models your own plan offers, read from your account
- Nano Banana Pro, 2 and 2.1, Seedream 5 Pro and the rest
- Topaz upscaling on your plan's credits
- Billed on your plan's credits
The account connection uses Higgsfield's official sign-in, the same one Claude uses. It is stored encrypted, for you alone, and the site can only call generation, upload, job, model and balance tools on it — never publishing, websites or workspace settings. There is an Unlimited switch too: it is used only when your account accepts it, and if Higgsfield refuses, you see its reason and the batch carries on with credits.
Batches, inside the tools you already use
- Mass Motion Control. One picture of your character, hundreds of source clips, Wan 3.0 References on Higgsfield.
- Face Swap and Carousel. One face, a whole folder of pictures, on Nano Banana Pro.
- Image & Video. Up to four references and batch generation on every model your key or your plan opens — Kling 3.0 and 2.6 Motion Control included.
- Settings read on the click. The prompt, the pictures and the options are taken when you press Start, so a last-minute change applies to the whole batch.
And when the same model costs less elsewhere, the provider is a menu: switch the batch to Kie.ai, WaveSpeed or Atlas Cloud with your own key there. More on that on the Higgsfield alternative page.
What it does — and what it does not
What it does
- Uses the Higgsfield API with your own key, without code
- Uses your Higgsfield plan through the official MCP
- Runs batches of hundreds, paced to your limits
- Lets you switch the same job to another provider
What it does not
- Resell Higgsfield, its credits or its API balance
- Unlock models or Unlimited your plan does not include
- Add a markup to any provider's price
- Speak for Higgsfield — it is an independent platform
Common questions
Does Higgsfield have an API? Yes: a pay-per-generation API with keys at open.higgsfield.ai, and an MCP server at mcp.higgsfield.ai for AI agents.
Does the API use my subscription credits? No. It has its own balance. Plan credits are spent on the website and through the MCP.
Is the Higgsfield API free? No. Each generation is paid at the model's listed price; Higgsfield's API page mentions a free playground to try the models.
Does Unlimited work through the API or the MCP? Higgsfield's help center says Unlimited is for higgsfield.ai, apart from time-limited trial offers.
Can I use it without code? Yes — paste your key in Settings and the batch tools call the API for you.
Is Onyx.AI affiliated with Higgsfield? No. It connects with your own key or your own account, like any client.

Plug in your key, run a real batch
Every pack opens the whole platform free to start with — 15 days, 1 month or 2 months depending on the pack. Long enough to run the same batch on your API key, on your plan and on another provider, and keep the cheapest.
