Video metadata remover: see what your file gives away, then wipe it
Drop a video or a picture. You see every piece of metadata it carries — where it was shot, the phone, the dates, the editing app, the encoder — then you get a clean copy with none of it, checked line by line. It all happens in this browser tab: your file is never uploaded.
Videos: MP4, MOV, M4V. Pictures: JPEG, PNG, WebP. Orange lines are the ones that say the most about you.
What metadata hides in a video
- Where it was filmed. Phones write the GPS coordinates into the video when the camera has access to location — sometimes as a whole track that follows you as you move.
- What filmed it. The make and model of the phone or camera, its software version, sometimes the lens.
- When. The recording date and the last change, stored inside the file — not only the date your computer shows.
- What edited it. The editing app, the encoder and, with x264 or x265, its complete settings written into the video stream itself.
- Everything else. XMP packets, timecode and metadata tracks, preview pictures and embedded blocks added by apps along the way.
How this metadata remover works
- Read. Your browser opens the file and lists every block of metadata it finds, in the Before column.
- Rewrite. A video is rebuilt with only its picture and sound: tags, dates, names and encoder text are left out. The frames are not re-encoded, so the quality does not move. A picture keeps only its image data; a JPEG keeps its orientation so it is not shown sideways.
- Check. The clean copy is read again with the same reader. The After column is what is really in the file you download.
Your AI pictures carry your prompt
PNG files saved by ComfyUI or Automatic1111 keep the full prompt, the seed and the model — and with ComfyUI, the whole workflow. Anyone who drops your picture into ComfyUI gets your exact setup back. Run it through the remover before you share it: the prompt and the workflow are gone, the pixels are untouched.
How to remove metadata from a video on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac
The built-in options only go part of the way. On iPhone, the Options button at the top of the share sheet can leave out the location — the device and the dates stay. On Android, it depends on the phone and the app you share from. On Windows, Properties, Details, Remove Properties and Personal Information clears some fields, mostly on photos. This page does the whole job on all of them, in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox, on a phone or a computer.
Formats and limits
Supported
- Videos: MP4, MOV, M4V — up to 1 GB on a computer, 400 MB on a phone
- Pictures: JPEG, PNG, WebP — up to 100 MB
- As many files as you want, one after the other
- No account, no limit, no watermark
Not yet
- HEIC photos (export them as JPEG first)
- WebM, MKV, AVI and GIF
- Fragmented MP4, written by some screen recorders
- Editing metadata: this tool only removes it
Why the size limit? The file is held in your device's memory while it is rewritten — the price of never sending it anywhere.
Metadata is not the whole story
Removing metadata does not change a single pixel, and the file name is not touched either — rename it if it says too much. Publishing your own video on several of your accounts as distinct versions is a different job: that is what the Spoofer does, in the Onyx.AI plans.
Common questions
Is it really free? Yes. No account, no limit, no watermark. Your own browser does the work, so it costs nothing to offer.
Is my video uploaded? No. It is read and rewritten inside this tab and never sent to a server. Once the page is loaded, it even works offline.
Does it reduce the quality? No. Nothing is re-encoded or recompressed; only the metadata blocks are taken out.
Does it remove the location? Yes — GPS tags, location tracks and XMP location fields. The After column shows what is left.
Can I clean several files at once? Yes. Drop them all; they are cleaned one after the other, each with its own Before and After.
More free tools, no key needed
The metadata remover is also in the Onyx.AI app, next to Dataset Captioning, Upscale and Change voice — free in guest mode. The rest of the platform finds what goes viral, remakes it with your character and ships it to your accounts.
